Our History

Stoltz Enterprises, Inc. (SEI) is located in Slidell, LA, a suburb of New Orleans, on the north shore of Lake Ponchartrain. SEI was formed in 1974 as a management company, primarily to operate and expand several family owned businesses. We entered the software business in 1979 as a defensive response to a computer system that was purchased for our own need and proved to be inadequate. As we developed in house programming skills, for use in debugging and improving our own system, we began to take on contract programming projects channeled to us through the OEM that had sold us the system. When that OEM went out of business, SEI began software support for a selected number of the OEM’s former clients.

By 1980-81, SEI was almost exclusively in the software business providing software support and contract programming to about 12 companies in a variety of industries including retail, wholesale and manufacturing. The clients were scattered throughout the two-state area of Louisiana and Mississippi.

During the mid-1980’s, SEI adopted a stretegy to evolve from software support and contract programming to a more marketing driven company. The objective was to identify potential vertical markets in SEI’s wide array of application software and begin selective marketing of some of these products. Two clearly defined verticals were chosen: Beverage Production and Food Distribution. In addition, SEI continued to market it’s general distributiuon and manufacturing software.

Despite the focus on developing vertical markets, the company’s growth was still characterized by new clients in different types of distribution and manufacturing. The geographic distribution of clients began to expand as well so that currently SEI’s clients range from coast to coast. As a result of this growth, several mature, industry specific software systems began to emerge in addition to the food and beverage products.

Until the spring of 1990, the sole hardware platform and been Data General®. In March 1990, SEI ported its software to the IBM RISC System/6000™ using TRANSOFT® Universal Business Language and the IBM AIX (Unix) Operating System. We had the capabilitiy to deploy the software on a wide variety of Unix platforms, but until the spring of 1997, the client base remained primarily IBM RISC System/6000.

In 1992, the software systems for the food industry were trademarked Food/6000® to enhance product name recognition and clearly identify the product to the market it serves. The trademark is registered with the U.S. Patent office.

During the mid-1990’s the Food/6000 product began to specialize in the processing and distribution of meat, cheese and other weighted food products. We also expanded our presence in produce distribution and processing.

In the spring of 1997, we released Food/6000 running under the Windows NT operating system. The Windows NT product has proved so popular that by the end of 1998, Windows NT comprised about 20% of our client base.

Today, SEI offers comprehensive software systems for the following industries:

  • Food Distribution
  • Food Packing & Processing
  • Beverage Production
  • Wiring Harness Manufacturing
